First of all as Always thank you to Chaoist for giving me the Permission to write this Introduction.

As the Readers of this Blog most know by now, I'am often on Spotify and switch through so many Artists. And in this Sense i found also Chaoist!
Many groups that I know have achieved a certain status, but there are also some really great underground bands that deserve recognition.

The Line Up is as such
D. (All Instruments / Vocals)

Since the lyrical themes (Gnosticism, Death worship, Chaosophy) of the songs speak to some people, I had to ask if I could write about him. Thankfully, he said yes!

October 2022 brought a new artist to the black metal music landscape. With his currently only EP, "Annul," under the WormHoleDeath label, he released a sonically powerful EP that is heard even in the depths of the black metal community.
1. Trance - Rapture - Invocation (03:27) (instrumental)
2. Maeditation I (04:22)
3. Maeditation II (05:58)
4. Maeditation III (08:43)
Full Playtime: 22:30

As always, we were able to ask our questions, which we are happy to include.
Ceyla"Is there any band that inspires you the most? Or, if there isn’t such a band, where do you draw your inspiration from?"
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
D. : "There are many bands that inspire me, really. I couldn't deny that the music I listen to has a great part in what I write. In recent times, seeing Acherontas, Niedergang, and Lepra perform on the last iteration of the "Inner Awakening" festival left a lasting Mark that I feel I'll carry with me. One of the earliest and most important inspirations of what is now Chaoist is The One.
Currently I'm pretty impressed by the releases of ColdCell and Chaos Invocation, and I'd also need to mention Thy Darkened Shade and Noise Trail Immersion as bands I regularly turn back towards.
It's never a static picture but rather an ever-flowing and changing amalgamation of many when it comes to inspiration; that's why it'd be extremely difficult to point out only one."

You can definitely hear the influences of the Bands mentioned above in the songs, but the sound of the songs is still very unique. Unique enough to let your imagination run wild and just let yourself be carried away. Even if that's hard to imagine with some music genres.

To add something from Metal Archives, since someone wrote a review there. Written by VladimirCokorilo.
Chaoist is a new name but a familiar face in the Serbian black metal scene, which was formed from the ashes of one-man project Joys of Life. Its founder and only member Dopamine&Serotonine, also changed his signature to “D.” on his most recent works, including this one. After a few years of silence, he released a four track EP called “Annul”, to light a new flame for those who will dedicate themselves to worship death and chaos. Is the new flame that’s been burning for quite sometime worth worshipping?

Annul's songs are very straightforward and simple, although various in some points when it comes to songwriting. It begins with an instrumental intro “Trance - Rapture - Invocation”, which starts off with ambient sounds of knife sharpening and footsteps on grass before switching to an unusually catchy medieval folk tune that reminds you of music from real time strategy games like “Stronghold” and “Age of Empires”. After that, we're thrown into action with "Maeditation I", which has mid tempo riffing and drumming that switch to aggressive tremolo picking and blast beats near the end. The third track "Maeditation II" is done in somewhat similar fashion with the addition of d-beat drumming in some occasions, while the fourth and final track "Maeditation III" has a tad bit more than the previous two, tremolo picking riffs and lead melodies on top. One of the highlights of this EP is the sound production, to which we have to thank Within Cells in charge of mixing and mastering, who has successfully worked with Satan's Acolytes, Praznina and Todesfall. The second highlight would be the cover art by Omadan IX (Kolac, QOPH IX), which is very reminiscent of Watain's "Lawless Darkness" cover art, possibly done as an homage but nonetheless showcases the general feeling of death worship and chaos. The overall sound and themes of Chaoist are very different to its previous incarnation Joys of Life, completely ditching the depressive suicidal aspects and opting for a more modern black metal sound approach with themes of gnosticism, death worship and chaos. Besides the change of sound and lyrical themes, one definite improvement from the previous works of D. is his vocal style, which in my opinion sounds much better than before and remind a lot of M. from Mgła. As for my personal opinion of Annul, I do like it for what it is but I still have mixed feelings after listening it a couple of times. The songs are awesome and all but they leave a lot to be desired and lack a certain punch to really get it right.

Annul is just a beginning of a new chapter that shows potential but it still takes some time for Chaoist to develop into something much stronger. Some well-known albums serving as musical influences for this EP in both production and music would probably be Mgła - Exercise in Futility and Watain - Lawless Darkness, both of which have a very different style and themes. It is far from a disappointing release and does enough to keep you satisfied to some degree, but it might be a bit unusual for those who liked Joys of Life and prefer its darker side of reality. I think that the evolution from Joys of Life to Chaoist is a drastic change but a welcome one, and it certainly didn't shed its skin in a desperate attempt to create something commercial to please a wider audience.

Of course, there was also the question of the festivals.
Ceyla: "Are there any festivals or events in Germany, or even worldwide, that you would like to attend? Some of them always offer opportunities to apply.

Everyone has different ideas about which events they might be suitable for, so we are always curious to see what the answer will be.

D. : "I remember back in middle school, around 2009, I bought a pirated, burned, and hand-marked copy on the streets of the local marketplace of a DVD with various bands performing at Party San in Germany. Although I don't follow the festival these days, so I don't really know if and how much it changed, I was really impressed back then, and I specifically remember how I heard some bands for the first time on this DVD.
I would also love to attend and witness the Funkenflug Society's events. Even though not that far from where I live, I never managed to visit any of them, but perhaps this will change sometime in the future. Besides Chaoist, which is a one-man band, I am also active in other live acts, and playing at one of these events would be something really special, I imagine.
Chaoist becoming a live band one day and touring isn't off the table, but my focus currently is on writing new material and continuing on my own for the time being."

As many of You know, i do love to recommend to different Festivals, like Dong Open AirFull ForceRock HarzSummer BreezeTurock Open Air , Party San Open AirFrostfeuernächteDark Troll Festival and many many more. The only thing we could try would be as always, share the Summer Breeze page.

Nonetheless, we're keeping our fingers crossed for the upcoming festival season for the band where they get the Chance to Play.

Of course, we always give artists and musicians the option to leave a message for the readers. These messages are always very heartwarming, even if you shouldn't mention them in metal. And yet, they are all absolutely lovely people.
Ceyla: "Is there anything you would like the readers of this blog to know about you and your music?"
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
D. : "Thank each and every one of you for reading and listening through my Work and supporting Metal All Over The World. I recommend keeping an eye out for upcoming Black Metal releases from Serbia. There is currently a lot of honest and intense Work in preparation, and I believe it will be more than worth it. More Music is being written from my own side as well, but it's still too early to talk about release dates. Nevertheless, I am very glad for everyone following eagerly from the shadows and waiting patiently.

With this, we had another Honor to write about a Awesome Band and we hope to fascinate so much more People to look into there Music.

All named artists, as well as festivals and the entire discography, are linked throughout the article!
